How it adapts

It reads what your hands actually did

KeyFu is a piano practice app for iPhone and iPad that plans from what your hands played. It fits your goal, your time, your keyboard, your key and your hands today.

Your skills

What you’ve built, skill by skill

Six skills on one wheel, each filled from what you played. A skill not measured yet stays an empty outline, not a score.

Your coach KeyFu

Timing is leading. Ear is your next win — worth a session. Your goal leans on Chord moves, Chord shapes, and Low notes — and that's where most of this week went.

Your skills: the skill wheel above its table. Six skills with level, freshness and this week’s minutes: Timing, second nature, 12 min; Chord moves, strong, a goal skill; Ear, solid; Chord shapes, strong, a goal skill, 36 min; Hand sync, strong; Low notes, strong, a goal skill
Each slice is one skill and fills as it grows. Freshness shows how well each is holding, with the days since you played it; a week away resets nothing.
Timing
Staying with the beat, not just near it.
Chord moves
The changes a song is built on.
Ear
Recognizing what you hear before you find it.
Chord shapes
Getting the shape under your fingers.
Hand sync
Both hands landing together.
Low notes
The low part a song stands on, usually played by your left hand.

Three views sit over the same wheel. Level says how far along each skill is, in words; Freshness, how well it is holding; This week, your minutes.

Your goal puts a ring around the skills it leans on. The ring is never part of the fill, so changing your goal takes nothing away.

An empty skill’s row names the exercise that fills it in.

What it changes

It moves with how you played

a notch faster · a notch slower · the stuck hand alone

Playing something right once is not the same as owning it.

The tempo picks up when chords land in time and gives you room when they don't. An exercise that held steady can come back a notch faster.

When a spot keeps catching, help comes in steps: a notch slower, the stuck hand alone, then no beat until it runs clean. The coach says what changed.

Your time

It fits the minutes you have

Today’s session is built to fit the length you pick, so short bursts are fine.

  • 5 min
  • 10 min
  • 20 min
  • 30 min
Sessions of 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes. Each one is planned for its length, usually with a warm-up first.

Change time puts the plan together again for a new length, so nothing is simply cut off the end.

Each exercise takes as long as it needs, so the time is a guide, not a promise.

Longer sittings work too: once today’s plan is done, More practice adds more, and Play freely has no clock at all.

Your keyboard

It fits the keyboard you own

25 to 88 keys

Tell KeyFu how many keys your digital piano or keyboard has, and the exercises it picks fit under your hands.

An exercise that needs more keys says so, and KeyFu can follow your octave buttons.

Your hands today

It eases off when you tire

Late in a session your hands stop responding the way they did at the start.

The Let’s ease off card: your hands have been working hard, and the next one, “Four chords, one 7th each”, is demanding; below it, Take a short break, Swap in 1 – 5 – 6m – 4 block chords, and Continue as planned
The reason in words, and the choice stays yours

KeyFu treats that as information, not failure. Before each exercise it checks how you’re doing; if it’s too much, Let’s ease offoffers a break or something lighter.

You can still play it as planned, and Take it easy on my hands in Settings makes sessions lighter, with earlier breaks.

Pick a library exercise that is a bit much today, and it starts at its slowest tempo while the coach says why.

Your key

The coach picks a key, or you do

Let the coach pick today’s key, or set your own: the key you sing in, the one your track is in, or one you just like.

CD♭DE♭EFF♯GA♭AB♭B12home notes

16 kinds of key

7 kinds like major and minor

9 kinds like blues and pentatonic

192 keys to play in, like C major or A minor blues

As you change it, the coach says what that key would mean for today’s plan.

Where it runs

Practice works without a connection

Practice works the same with the Wi-Fi down: reading what you played never waits on the internet.

The roll waiting at the line: the 6m · Am chord drawn as three hollow gold outlines with finger numbers, the coach’s note that the roll waits quietly for the whole shape, and the keys A, C and E outlined on the keyboard below
A chord not fully down? The roll waits for it.

Even the roll’s wait for a chord that isn’t fully down happens on the device itself.

If the coach can’t be reached, practice carries on without him.
